Kaunnect helps people who have already noticed each other in the real world connect with mutual consent. We do not run a public nearby people directory.
Who we are
Kaunnect is operated by Vected Technologies Private Limited, 616, Sixth Floor, Shekhar Central, Palasia Square, Manorama Ganj, Indore, Madhya Pradesh 452001, India (“we”, “us”). Privacy questions: support@kaunnect.com.
Data we collect
Your phone number (to sign in); your profile: first name, a pseudonym and the sticker you pick, date of birth (to confirm you are 18+), gender (woman or man, chosen at sign-up), and optionally who you are interested in, work details and up to 3 photos; if you verify your profile, your email address, photos of one government ID you choose (Aadhaar, PAN, driving licence, passport or voter ID) and the full name printed on it, and a short selfie video of you reading a one-time phrase; requests you send to our support team; your location while the app is open, to find people and places within sight; which place you check in at inside a hotspot and, only if you choose, roughly where you are sitting (a named place or one of a fixed list such as a park bench or a bus stop; never typed text); wall posts and reactions, and short samples of wall posts our filter blocked; which audio rooms you started or joined, when, and whether you spoke (your voice is streamed live to the people in the room and is never recorded or stored by us; the microphone is used only while you are a speaker with your mic on); kudos you give and receive, and your Aura points, streaks, badges and the places you have visited; the descriptions and answers you give in a mystery; messages in chats after you both say yes; the notification token of your device; blocks and reports you make; and basic technical records (sign-in times, device type, app version, IP address) to keep accounts secure and stop abuse. If the app crashes, a crash report without your name, number or messages may be sent. We also record when you reach key steps (signing up, becoming available, starting a mystery, sending a hello, connecting, revealing names) to measure whether Kaunnect works; these records never include messages, descriptions or location.
How we use data
To run the service: place you near people and venues you choose, ask only people nearby who match a description, deliver hellos, reveals and chats after mutual consent, and send notifications (with generic lock-screen text by default). To keep people safe: enforce 18+, verify profiles (our staff watch your selfie video and compare it with your government ID, your photos and stated age; we keep the verified name and gender from your ID, lock your gender to it, and only ever show your first name, after a mutual reveal; we never ask for or store your ID number, and a masked Aadhaar is fine; your email is checked with a one-time code and is never shown to others), screen profile photos, filter abusive messages and early contact details, review reports and ban accounts. Other people never see your exact location or distance, and see your name and photo only after you both agree. A check-in adds one to that place’s live count without showing who you are; wall posts and rooms show the place they are at. Where you are sitting is used only to ask the closest people first and is never shown to anyone. People you have met in a room, a mystery (after you both connect) or a chat see you in their “People you’ve met” list by pseudonym, with the room you are in right now unless you turn that off in Account & privacy; ending a chat removes you from each other’s list. In rooms, on the wall and on leaderboards you appear only by your pseudonym and a generated avatar. Aura points reward showing up and being kind, and upheld reports take points away.
Who processes data for us
We store your data on our own servers, rented from a cloud hosting provider, in a PostgreSQL database. Service providers process some data on our behalf only to run Kaunnect: Google Firebase (phone number verification), our email provider (sending verification codes), Expo, Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service (notifications), Google Maps (map display and place search on your device), Google Cloud Vision (checking new profile photos for nudity or violence), Sentry (crash and error reports), and Google Drive (encrypted backups). We do not sell personal data or share it for advertising.
Your consent and your rights
We process your data with your consent, given when you create an account, and to meet legal obligations. You can withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account; notification and location permissions can be turned off in your phone settings. Under India's DPDP Act you can ask to access, correct or erase your data and nominate someone to act for you. Residents of the EEA, UK and California have similar rights. Write to support@kaunnect.com; we reply within 30 days.
How long we keep data
Live location is deleted within 24 hours. Room audio is never recorded. Wall posts disappear from the app after 15 minutes and are deleted after 24 hours, or kept until a report about them is resolved (at most 30 days). Who was in an audio room, and when, is deleted 30 days after the room ends. Each person in your “People you’ve met” list is removed 90 days after you last met. Aura points, badges and your places visited are kept while you have an account. Finished mysteries, ended availability sessions and notifications are deleted after 30 days. Notification tokens not used for 60 days, and signed-out sessions after 90 days, are deleted. Your selfie video (encrypted) and verified email are kept while you have an account; unused email codes expire after 10 minutes. Key-step records are deleted after 180 days. Encrypted backups are kept for 30 days.
Deleting your account
Delete your account in the app (Profile → Account & privacy → Delete account) or follow the steps at https://kaunnect.com/delete-account/. Your profile, photos, government ID images, verification video, email, chats, mysteries, location, notifications, wall posts, room history, kudos and Aura are deleted immediately and every device is signed out; copies in backups expire within 30 days. We keep reports made about you, and a one-way coded form of your phone number (not the number itself) for people who blocked you or accounts closed for being under 18, so that safety decisions still apply if the same number signs up again.
Getting a copy of your data
Profile → Account & privacy → Download my data gives you a machine-readable copy of your profile, consents, availability sessions, mysteries, messages you sent, notifications, blocks and reports you made, wall posts, rooms you were in, people you have met, and your Aura, badges and places visited.
Children
Kaunnect is strictly 18+. If a date of birth under 18 is entered, the account is deleted and that phone number cannot sign up again until the person turns 18. Accounts reported as under 18 are suspended until reviewed. Report suspected minors via Report → Appears under 18.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS), photos are served only through short-lived signed links, backups are encrypted, and access to the servers is restricted. No method is 100% secure; report concerns to support@kaunnect.com.
Grievance Officer
Under India's IT Rules 2021 and DPDP Act, our Grievance Officer is Satyam Dixit, Vected Technologies Private Limited, 616, Sixth Floor, Shekhar Central, Palasia Square, Manorama Ganj, Indore, Madhya Pradesh 452001, India, support@kaunnect.com. We acknowledge complaints within 24 hours and resolve them within 15 days.
Cookies (web)
On the web app we use essential storage for session and security. Optional analytics cookies are used only with your consent via the cookie banner. You can change preference anytime from Account & privacy.
Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Updated” date and, where required, requesting renewed consent.
